Bodage 101 - BDSM Restraints

There has been an huge increase in popularity in bondage play and specifically BDSM Restraints, since the release of the Fifty Shades of Grey books and movies. And although not everyone is a fan of the 50 Shades trilogy most people can admit to there being something arousing about being blindfolded and tied up – or about doing this to your partner.

Bondage play is not necessarily about being whipped or gagged, but can be about more sensual play and basic control. Many beginners like to start with blindfolds and ticklers and perhaps a pair cuffs and never really move past this, and that’s ok. As with everything sexual – its about what you find comfortable. Trust is very important when is comes to any type of Bondage or BDSM play – restraining a lover allows them to completely surrender and trust in you.

This blog aims to focus more on Bondage restraint equipment and gives you a basic idea of what you can tie your partner up with.
Bondage restraints are used basically to restrict the body’s movement which provides a sense of control to the restrainer, Restrains include various type of cuffs – from ankle to wrist and thumb), harnesses & collars, ropes; silk ties & bondage tape and blindfolds & masks.

Wrist/ Hand Cuffs

These are made of a variety of material but are often nylon, neoprene, metal or leather. Beginners should try a softer material that wont hurt the wrists.

Ankle Cuffs

You can use most wrist cuffs as ankle cuffs – and once again for beginners softer cuffs are more user friendly. You can also try a variety of wrist-to-ankle cuffs which are considered the “Mac-Daddy” of BDSM Restraints. These restrict movement of the body almost completely.

Straps and Ties

Straps, silk ties and such restrain equipment are popular choices for restraining against bedposts, chairs etc. You can also get under the bed restraint sets that are designed to keep you restrained – spread eagle – against the bead. These traps run under the bed and come up on the sides and so don’t require bed posts.

Rope

Bondage rope is often made from silk or cotton for comfort. You can easily ties your partner to an object or create a rope harness. Rope is also used for Shibari rope play. Make sure when using rope that you don’t tie the rope too tight and that you leave room for blood circulation.

When experimenting with bondage play always make sure that you trust your partner and that there is mutual respect. When executed in a safe and sensual space, BDSM can truly be a tool to enhance your sexual experience and BOND you and your partner.
